hazymranch
What's the trick with hydnophora anyway? The LFS gave me a frag that was doing poorly in his tank and asked me to see if I could bring it around. It is looking better than it did, but still nowhere near as healthy as the one in Helifax' tank. I have it placed high in the tank with solid flow (somewhat laminar unfortunately) and my water quality is really good. Is there anything else I should consider? Hey Rossco, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but you did bring up the hydrophora. I hope you don't mind.
reef
NOT put a coral banded shrimp in with your cleaner(s) as they will fight to the death News to me. i have 6 cleaners and 2 coral banded, not problems. If you put them in a shoe box then they might fight. In the quarantine facility normally have 200 cleaners in a tank with a few coral banded shrimps. never a problem. HelifaxNZ
Thanks Hazy... I do on occasions feed the Hydno and it responds really well.
wasp
I have it placed high in the tank with solid flow (somewhat laminar unfortunately) and my water quality is really good. Is there anything else I should consider? How high, how much light? It is possible to overdo the light with these. And as helifax said, you can actually feed hydnophora little bits of chopped mussel or similar. Over the course of a day or so they will put tentacles all over it & absorb it. reef
I dont think there is a need to feed them as they grow like wildfire. Will need normal calcium and kh levels. Medium light and flow is fine, Good water quality like low p04 and nitrate would be a help.
rossco
Just to clarify - I added a 'vitamin & amino acid supplement'. Food wouldn't hang around long enough in my tank to feed them! I made the mistake of bringing the hydnophora too close to my MH, too soon. Started to get recession and polyps not out very much. They probably prefer the light more 'indirect'. ghostface
i have a few dotted around the tank, and the lower light ones are more bushy
