Caryl
The off switch is your concrete driveway - which the fish must hit at great speed

Wok
I think you will need to set up a convent for the female. Or Raise the temp to 28 deg C. I know that my convicts didn't do anything at that temp... wasn't until I lowered the temp that they started to get mischeiveous
Faran
or.... you could always separate the male and female? Just a thought. Seems that long distance relationships and fone lovin don't do it for fishies.
AMAZONIAN
Hi All Why are you all complaining about???????????????????? You got your own LIVE FOOD FACTORY RIGHT AMONGST THE REST OF YOUR SETUP. I let my Blue Gouramis breed for the same reason. "CHEAP FISH FOOD" Nobody wants them, it's not worth rearing them to maturity as it costs too much, and they take up tank space. But since they are in their own tank and wanna breed...I let them. So needless to say, all my betta and better fish dine on Blue Gourami Fry.
Faran
LOL, it's a good point and exactly why I'd start keeping convicts if I had large fish to feed.... but all of Billaneys fish are itty bitty aside from his wifes cichlids. THEY would enjoy the cons... but with that rocky tank I'm sure some would survive and eventually start having babies there, too
CraigMcN
Having them survive is the only danger with using convict fry as food I've had a 5mm long convict fry grow into a happy healthy 2" male in a tank with two constantly hungry and rapidly growing Oscars. After a while it seemed they just recognised him as a tankmate rather than a food source... I'm just thankful it turned out to be a male, coz there are two other male convicts in the tank, and having a female turn up would be a recipe for chaos
AMAZONIAN
yep, and start the problem all over again.
Wok
The problem I have is that the parents are to precious about their fry and won't let the other cichlids come near and have a couple bits of fry.
AMAZONIAN
Hey Guys, All I do is take the parents out, scoop up the fry and put in a 16 x 8 x 8 inch tank and put the upset parents back into their tank ready to breed again in ten to twelve days. The fry are all of 4 to 5 mm long and my Dwarf Ciccys love em.
