Joze
our house alarm has a similar feature, if the power is off for more than 60 mins and/or the alarm has been set off it dials the cellphone and leave a pip code. We had the bios on it adjusted to inform us about the power as it has been known for thieves to cut the power and let the alarm run out of battery power. If you are going to be in that situation such as going away you need to leave the number of a willing club member with the person looking after your place - just in case. Kermit
Well the 222-02 can only take in Digital inputs (open/closed signals relays, switches, etc) the 300 series can read analogue (temperatures) and digital (open/closed signals relays, switches, etc) so again you'd have a relay thats powered by the power supply that feeds your tank and if the power is removed the relay contacts will change stat allowing the EDAC dialler to dial an alarm, the EDAC units can run on 12-28vdc so a 12vdc power pack and 12vdc battery would run the device for when power is out allowing it to dial the alarm. The 300 series units can control heaters and fans/chillers to control you tank temperature to if you wanted.

Kermit
Dont the paging car alarms only work on a radius from the alarm unit as i dont think they use the telecommunications networks i think they have a builtin transceiver? But you can get SMS alarms that may work?
jetskisteve
yes to both, might be an option?
Feelers
Got some "techie" help. Silicon Chip magazine had a project using a cell phone to autodial on command. It wouldb't be difficult to arrange a PIC (or PIC-Axe) microcontroller to drive a modem. They handle temperature sensors pretty well, too. It's trivial to detect power off ... a transformer and diode, which could be part of the charger for the battery which would run the unit when its needed. I asked what issue of the magazine its in. Feelers
How much do these pic axe things cost rougly? Are they available in nz or imported? Edit: on their price list nothing is over 85pounds - most are half that, so it looks pretty cheap. (I didnt know what I was looking for) It would be a cool thing to have, "I have to go, my tank needs me"
Kermit
Available in NZ most eletronic stores carry them try Jcar electronics, or if Chch south island components dick smiths have PIC chips but not sure if they have PICAXE. You use to beable to by the starter packs which gave you everything needed to start pretty cheap the chips alone are anywhere from $5-30 thats just the programmable chip. I haven't got the time to sit down and design a circuit nor find the dialling string comands easy for me to by a dialler already make and i know will work. Kermit
That depends on how much you buy, i see the site is now charging 18pnd when i was buying it was only 2pnd which made it a lot cheaper then South Island Components but now unless your going to buy heaps SI components are the best deal.
