March 6, 200620 yr comment_91432 Hey Gang, are there wild or imported cuttlefish for sale here??? Has anyone seen any diving around NZ?? Thanks Report
March 6, 200620 yr comment_91435 I think you only get them up in the poor knights if at all. They are pretty much a tropical species(mostly). I doubt they will be imported - probably not on the list and they have a short lifespan(from point of capture) so it wouldnt be worth it. just found this...... cuttlefish are a big problem. or rather, they were a big problem. cuttlefish farms are no longer permitted in new zealand's waters because some got loose and harmed some endangered prawn populations. now the only way kiwis (the people, not the bird) can get cuttlefish is by importing it from australia or asia. but imported fish are highly taxed because NZ is trying to help out its faltering aquaculture industry. long story short, cuttlefish is mad expensive. and that sucks, because its really tasty. There is no mention of NZ cuttlefish in "Cephalopods: a World Guide", which is a really good book btw Report
