Kriber
Hi all, do swordtails drop all of their young basically at once, or over the course of a few hours? I found only 4 fry today, the mother is still in with them (and looking fat) how many could she have eaten? she's not chasing the 4 that are still there. The only other inhabitants in the 2ft tank are 3 bronze cories and a 1cm long krib I thought swordtails give birth to something like 50-70 young. The mother is probably around 7cm long, does it take a while for them to start producing larger batches of fry? Ideas anyone? Cheers, Kriber
Caryl
It can vary a lot kriber as to how many they have. First batches tend to be small. You have no way of knowing how many she ate either. They can drop fry over several hours I think. Have you plenty of places for the dry to hide? Spawning moss is ideal.
livebearer_breeder
sometimes it can take up to a day for a female swordy to give birth, but if all thw water perameters r rite then she should drop early morning in about an hour or so and they generally give birth to between 20-80fry
