scholesy
Interested to hear how many cm or inches if you prefer you have your halides above the water surface? I'm thinking about 20 - 25cm for my new set-up. All replies appreciated.
wasp
20 to 25 is fine, try that and adjust up or down depending on wether it's doing what you want and the effect on your corals. Some people go 15 or even less.
suphew
As close as possible, but far enough so you don't get splashes and so that you get the coverage you need. Mine are 4-5inches above.
chimera
about 5-6 inches for me, used to be 10-12"... light height that is...
puttputt
I tried to go down to 10-15cm but found it reduced the spread too much, back to 22cm.

scholesy
Thanks all. These 250Wers I have are pretty bright looking... even the bottom of the tank is getting lots of light. I'll try to create a few small overhangs here and there for some of the soft corals that like a bit less. Cheers for the feedback, much appreciated
