GeeTee
I have a male Metriaclima callainos(cobalt blue) and a Metriaclima callainos(red zebra).I'm guessing they are the same family and was looking for some females for the blue.If they are the same family would they cross breed? My brother had a Nimbochromis Venustus that died the other day and was just wandering if they are prone to any diseases, etc ?
malawi_man
um they could be the blue/orange variation, the male is blue and the female is red/orange i think this is the right order. go to www.cichlid-forum.com and look in the species profiles under metriaclima estherae. hope this helps
Caryl
I would expect them to cross breed (my opinion only, I have no experience with these fish)
malawi_man
any fish can crossbreed, depends if they want to though. but if they aren't the orange/blue variation dont sell hybrid fry.
GeeTee
I actually registered with that web site, post a picture of the fish to try and get a positive ID.They reckoned it was the Red Zebra. They were helpful but didn't seem as friendly as you lot.(Maybe I just know the crew here fairly well now.) Might just have to get rid of one of them if I can get some females to go with the other one of them.
malawi_man
i hardly got any replys from that site either even tough they have 1000's of people. i find the library and profiles good though. and reading about other peoples projects try http://www.malawimayhem.com/phpBB2/index.php it is a canadian site totally devoted to malawis. they are a bit more friendly but not as much as here. herefishiefishie
There is a very good chance they will cross breed. :-? If you have a cobalt blue both males & females are blue. If the other fish is a red zebra,(Metriaclima estherae 'Pulu Point') can tell be they have red/orange colouring in their eyes. then both males & females are red. if you bought these as such, I'd say that is what you have, both species here in Aussie, are everywhere So just keep shopping around for more cobalt blues, best to buy in a group of 6 to 10 and get rid of excess males later on. What krib is referring to is a different species of fish again. Frenchy
