LYNDYLOO
Got some Angel Fry that are now at the Free Swimming stage, My Brine Shrimps have just arrived by Courier so by the time they hatch will probably be around 48 hrs I would think, going down to pick up a Microworm culture on Sunday, so what do I feed these Fry at the moment, I have some Liquifry but thats for Livebearers, also have Baby Fish Food, is this going to be OK untill I get the Microworms? Any ideas would be great. Lynda
Billaney
I'd say that would be fine, just ground the baby flake as fine as you can and feed little at a time 3 - 4 times a day.
Loopy
what about (chicken) egg yolk?? Somewhere i read that egg yolk can be used as a food or at least a suppliment for baby fish. Can someone correct me if i am wrong?
antwan
Thats right Loopy, egg yolk can be used but first it must be hard boiled. Secondly you cant just put the yolk in or it will foul the water terribly, it must be strained through very tiny little holes. A handkerchief works wonders for this job. This does foul the water quite bad with whatever the fish dont eat, so make sure you do regular water changes to complement the new diet. Anthony. evilknieval69
the guy at pickapet told me to feed fry egg for the first two weeks then start on bbs. he said to boil it as much as i possibly can and then take a pinch of the yolk and munch it between my fingers then wash my fingers in aquarium water so it becomes a milky liquid. he said to then just tip it in and they will love it. he said to do water changes everyday though because it will make the tank go bad :bounce: :bounce: hope this helps
LYNDYLOO
Thanks for the ideas Guys. Will give it a go and see what happens. Lynda
Luke*
I never understood this whole "straining" of the egg yolk, how would you do this with a hardboiled egg? The yolk is hard! Oh yeah only use the yolk btw. Runs off to make hardboiled egg on toast, one for me one for fish
Caryl
If you put a bit of yolk in a hankie or muslin then squeezed it in the water, the yolk goes through the material. Be very careful though as egg yolk fouls a tank very quickly!
Discusguru
you pretty much have to change all the water an hour after feeding or have a couple of sponge filter in the tank to filter all the uneaten york and squeeze it throughly during water change. Too much work IME. Ron
Alan
That's why I have snails as the clean-up crew.. They take the worst of it and leave nice little bundles to be syphoned out. Alan

Luke*
So when people talk about straining yolk, are they talking raw yolk? I don't see how you can strain hard boiled yolk!
Tanksman
So when people talk about straining yolk, are they talking raw yolk? I don't see how you can strain hard boiled yolk! No hard boiled - you get a yellow liquid with very tiny particles in it - ideal for fitting in a tiny fishes mouth
Caryl
Hard boiled yolk goes mushy when wet
