HelifaxNZ
Just noticed tonight one of the Hermit's pinchers, then later noticed another one, then the legs!!!! I had a look in the shell and Hermit was still in there with eyes peaking out. Anyone know what's happening? It just looks really sad seeing the arms and legs. Feelers
Helifax he might not be totally doomed - he might come right. Unlikely as it is - they are really tough.

ghostface
i had some in a cold[ish] water tank, they lasted a fair while, but i think the heat got most of them in the end. the couple that were left i released back to takapuna when i decommissioned the tank. HelifaxNZ
Hmmm... I may leave getting another hermit. Bit cruel to have a cold water one in a tank that's always 26oC.
Feelers
I had a cold water hermit in my sump tank and he lived for ages. I dont think they can acclimatise to a tropical tank though. One thing you could try - there are two main species of Hermits here a smaller more common orange one, and a blue one. Perhaps they have different tolerances?
