Rory
i have a two foot tank and a four foot light! I'm in desperate need of a two (or less) foot lighting unit. (its gonna have a wooden hood so the unit can be no longer than two foot). I've trawlled the net and trade me but cannot find a deicent priced unit (with two bulbs) ~$60-$90 Any ideas guys and girls? :-?
alanmin4304
I think a two foot light is slightly longer than two foot so you may need to make the lid bigger or the light smaller.

alanmin4304
If you don't know what you are doing it may only be once. You can wire them remotely, I have done it so the electrics are remote and only the tubes and connecters are in the lid,but the length needed is about the same as installing a complete fitting

petplanet
If it is a different brand, just make sure of the bulb lenght. There are a lot of ever cheaper units around but they cut corners by using shorter tubes. For example a 24" fitting would only take 18" tubes. Warren
I have 2 x TLD96 18W tubes (tube is 582mm long and 602mm long including terminals). You can have them if you can find a fitting. The fitting will be about 610mm overall length. You'll need to check your tank to see if it's 2 feet or 600mm and 2 feet is actually 609.6mm long. If you use really thin meterial for the end of your hood, 610mm will fit fine. I had a 600mm long tank with a hood 620mm long and it looked ok with the 10mm overhange each side. The stand was also 620mm wide so it looked well balanced...
