Faran
Okay, so I got a box of plants (mostly swords) and driftwood the other day and it has a good amount of BBA on it. Question is, what should I do to cleanse the plants and wood before introducing it to my sparkly new tank? I was thinking a diluted bleach dip, but I want to make SURE it's all dead before the new tank looks like the tank they came out of. Thanks in advance! Alan
Put it into a Q tank and dose the lot with erythryomyson (spp) One cap to 600x300x300mm tank Alan
alanmin4304
I know erythromycin works on bga because it is a bacteria but will it work on bba which is an algae (I have it starting up in one of my tanks.) Do you use 250mg or 500mg caps/12 gallon
HummingBird
A lot of flourish excel can kill it too. Double dosing it usually takes care of it.
alanmin4304
Hummingbird, what is it and what would it do to a tank of baby guppies at double strength?
stagger lee
I find 1 part bleach to 19 parts water works well. I have BBA in one of my tanks and it has thankfully not spread to the others. To be extra carefull you could treat with bleach a couple of times over a few days. God, i hate the stuff... Good luck

Snowman
BBA = Black Beard Algae
JoandWilly
If tis on the drift wood just run them under boiling hot water and that kills the bba and then the fishes eat it or it just dissappears.
antwan
Hi. I just did the same as JoandWilly, just boiled it in a pot for bout 10 mins or so then scrubbed it off. Easy as.
Snowman
Yeah easy as for a smaller piece of driftwood but i don't think many plants would like being boiled for 10 mins LOL
