skuzza
Have been saving up for about 7 months and the wait is finaly over. After my flat worm wipe out i decided it was time to do it right.I wish the price was right but as we all know that is never the case. Deltec AP1003 It took a hell of a lot of work to get the green light to put the controler on the wall where you can see it.Women they just dont understand. Streams with 4 pumps. This is the best thing i ever did as it has only been a week and coral is looking alot better in colour and health shame about the cost. chimera
Jimmy, that skimmer is HUGE. Nice work skuzza, that must have made the bank manager happy
Jimmy
Can you put something in the photo with the skimmer for a scale.
chimera
It's just under a metre high, over half a metre wide and can run a tank up to 5,000 litres
Jimmy
and how big is his tank?
chimera
it's a nano... 1600 litres from memory
Jimmy
So the skimmer is about the same size as the tank
slappers
no jimmy about 3 times the size off my tank
Jimmy
So that would make it 20 times the size of my tank
lduncan
Nice. You'll be very happy with the skimmer and streams combo. The 1003 is one big skimmer! Layton

Feelers
And he can chuck another pump on there if he really needs overkill. Just out of curiousity, what would an ap1003 set you back retail? A quick look on the deltec site and a conversion gives me the rather large sum of $4,412.04 NZ. And how do these skimmers work? Are these needle wheel too?
reef
Bit annoying skuzza, as I wanted to have the biggest skimmer. Might have to upgrade to a ap1006 with 8 pumps. Could be divorce time. Maybe a good thing to upgrade the wife at the same time

Feelers
And for some reason the ap1004 - (the ap1003 minus one eheim 1260) gives $772.776 NZD, the price of adding one pump. The same pump can be found for approx $200NZD on some US sites I quickly found. So there's Deltec adding $570NZD to stick on a pump , not a bad earning for a 10 minute job. (btw I have no idea how long this would take) I find that rather questionable to say the least.

Feelers
How come deltecs are so expensive in the US?
lduncan
How come deltecs are so expensive in the US? I think one reason is that they have some sort of duty on them, or so I heard. Or maybe the distributor wants to sell them for that price, people are obviously buying them. Layton
wasp
Check out the prices of the opposition, BubbleKing. You can get one if you're prepared to sell the house. Deltec very cheap in comparison. ( Still expensive though )
Jimmy
So would bubblekings skimmers be better than deltecs?
wasp
That's the eight thousand dollar question Jimmy  Who knows! There's been some argument on overseas boards with no definative evidence either way. Reef has tried one, he believes the Deltec is better.
