HelifaxNZ
Which is better, an Eheim or Laguna? I can get either of them - approx same litres/hour for ralatively the same price. What's your preference?
livebearer_breeder
Ehiem seems to be the most prefered brand in this forum Shae
Ira
Hmmm, you can get similar LPH eheim and lagunas for the same price? Either you're getting the eheims for really cheap or being charged way too much for the lagunas. Most places as far as I've seen sell the Lagunas for about half the price of the eheims for similar flows.
dogmatix
Ive had great results with laguna's
wasp
what I've found is Lagunas are quite good however they will need cleaning a lot more often than an eheim.
cracker
im running a laguna 7 8000lph...great pumps.
chimera
perhaps a generalisation - eheims are the better quality but a bit more expensive, lagunas are good quality but a better price if i get another pump i'll go laguna purely because I need it to be > 5000lph (eheim only do up to about 3500lph with the 1262 i think)
Mark
I tried running a Laguna 7 as well. Drained my sump in about 20 seconds so have put it on hold for the moment until i get plumbing rearanged or may need to settle for something a little less powerfull. slappers
i had that problem to redone plumbing all sweet now
Pies
Ehiem all the way. No issue with the Laguna, but the Ehiems have a proven track record, and other than price you'd struggle to find many people with bad experances. HelifaxNZ
Hmmm... Tough call. If I get the Eheim, I'll have to wait for 2-3 weeks for it to arrive, but if I get a Laguna, I can get it straight away. Also... Eheim 1262 - 3400l/h - 80W Laguna 4 - 3600l/h - 55W Leaning more to Laguna, more output and less wattage. Or should I wait for an Eheim? :-? Pie will have to agree with you there pies..But i do use a laguna powerjet 5000 as a return pump been going for about 3 weeks all good so far. we will just see how they stand up to the eheims

Pies
as a return pump been going for about 3 weeks all good so far. we will just see how they stand up to the eheims SteveA has 4 or more ehiems that have been running 24/7 submerged in saltwater for over 11 years... Feelers
Im real happy with my laguna 7. Way cheaper than an eheim too. However I cant vouch for its longevity yet! Its pretty powerfull. My turnover rates going to be big.
JoeBlog
I run two Laguna 7's for my return pumps and pretty stoked so far. I also have quite a few Eheim pumps running since the start and NEVER had a problem with those. It's not that I've had any problems with the Lagunas either, but they are relatively new additions. HelifaxNZ
Decided to get the Laguna 5 which pumps over 4800 l/h. Do you guys recommend using a stainless steel hose clip to keep the clear plastic hose in place on the return on the pump? Remembering that the pump will be submerged. Cheers
dogmatix
Just use pvc pipe 20 mm, heat the pipe with a heat gun and slide it over the provided fitting
HelifaxNZ
I've plugged it all in and boy is it LOUD!!! I tested the pump by itself and it was fine, but when I connected it up to the hose it is very loud. It does however have to reduce down from 25mm to 20mm for the SCWD. Any suggestions? dogmatix
Are you using the suction cups provided this may help to reduce the noise
HelifaxNZ
Yes, definately. Sounds like the noise is coming from the impeller and not from any vibrations.
Pies
Ohhh yeah thats the other thing that I dislike about the Laguna, they don't come with die tapped fitting so you can screw presure pipe into them, you have to ghetto something up because it only has bayonet style push fit connectors on them. cracker
And the problem is.........
Ira
If you're using it submerged though(I dunno if it's a good idea to do otherwise) the quick fitting thing on them is great, makes it real quick and easy to connect and disconnect the pump. But I'd imagine it is a little bit leaky, not enough to care about unless it's not underwater though.
