starlyte
My tank is cooling down, Checked the heater and it was set to 26, I turned it up just slightly and noticed the light came on - 5 mins later the heater was off again Turned it up more.. it went, 5 mins later it wasnt - it does stay on when its turned right up to the max ---- 32 degrees or soemthing Anyway, I dont have alot of time to get another heater (12 hour working days for a while) - i have glowlight tetras, 2x dwarf gourami and a yellow algae eater... How long can they live with cooler water? - need to get a tank asap, But if they are okay until this weekend i can get a heater replacement
slash
the light goes on and off if the water temp is dropping, it will on and heat ur tank if it needs to be higher, and will turn off at the temp u set it when it has reached it, most of the heaters are like this anyway.. alanmin4304
What sort of heater is it? If it is a jager it may be set wrong.
starlyte
I presumed the light woudl be on when its heating.. but the temperature is at 22 degrees, the heater was set for 26 degrees and the light is off - ie not heating.. if i turn the heater right up to 30 deg the light goes on but it would just stay on till the water got that hot... Im not sure exactly what it is, It came in the waterhome kit, Im at work at the moment but ill see if i can work out what it is Its only a week old, has worked fine up until now

livebearer_breeder
What watt is the heater? what size is your tank? Exact dimensions please so we can figure out how many litres it is, and that way determine if it’s simply a case of your heater not being able to cope with the amount of water. Another possibility is not enough water circulation in the tank, therefore you heater is turning of prematurely Shae

Alan
Set up the heater so as it is at an angle and the heated water not rising over the thermosat area. Or/and put an airstone underneath the heating coil. Alan
jude
Might pay to check your thermometer too. I recently replaced a heater only to discover the thermometer was bung. Cheers jude
starlyte
True... i instantly blamed the heater when really it could have just been the thermometer reading wrong
