Modern Angl
I lost a Elephant nose today it was the oldest one I had. He was fine until I put Melafix in the tank to treat some ill Rummynose tetra's in my big community tank. I treated the whole tank as I wanted to make sure that whatever is bumping off the rummynose doesn't spread to other fish. I only then remembered that He didn't take too kindly to Melafix in a previous tank and I found him about 30mins later floating upside down but still breathing. I moved him into another tank with no melafix in it and he seemed to get better, swimming about a bit and floating the right way up. I came through ths morning to check on him and he was almost white and floating about near the bottom of the tank, an ex- fish. The tank he was moved into was well established with no problems. The 4 other Elephant noses I have showed no bad reaction to the melafix, neither did the 5 clown loaches or other fish in the tank. Has anyone come across anything like this before? herefishiefishie
I have used mealfix, never had any problems. I think its a good natural way of treating fish. The only fish i have seen that didn't like it is a mangrove jack,(Brads 10.5ft native tank) it breaths heavy whenever its used. craig
sorry to hear about your loss. when ever you use any treatment you should always add extra air line or raise spray bar etc, as most treatment take oxygen out of the water. bigger fish will always show signs of oxygen depivity faster than small guy's. personally i have never had a problem with M/treatment, but have noticed it does put a slimey feeling on glass etc, teatree is usually oil bassed, so that be the reason me thinks. if used properly it seems to do the trick, it is purely for lumps, bumps and pimples and fluffy stuff, cut's and bruises etc. heaps of people seem to think it will fix whitespot it doesn't, will even make W/S worse, as any treatment stresses your fish out. shell's
