Snowman
How long has it been like that? If it'sonly one day i would do the water change and see what it's like tomorrow, if it hasn't improved or if you notice later today it is getting worse then definetly add the melafix, pity you dont have a very small tank to put it in as it means you can use less melafix. Crosses fingers it gets better overnight : -)>
Caper
Just noticed this evening...didn't see it earlier. It's 10:18 p.m. here to I'll do water change in morning. I have to get more Start Right. I checked: ammonia 0, pH between 7.2 & 7.6...hard to tell by the light at night!...nitrites 0. As I have said on the other post, I'm thinking I'm overfeeding...even the gravel doesn't look as clean as usual. If this is my problem, could this be causing this...I've started today not feeding as much.
Snowman
It is possible, very hard not to overfeed, they seem to be so hungry LOL I would expect that if you were overfeeding you would have worse water quality and probably some algae build up from excess nutrients in the water. Caper
Just checkin on him...there is definetly a thin white, whatever, along the edge. How I wish I could get a small tank to use as a hospital tank...but with no job right now... I just can't do it
Caper
No change in sailfin's tail fin...doesn't look any worse...doesn't look any better. Not 24 hours since was first noted. Before I go adding the Melafix, should I just keep watch and do nothing unless I see a change (getting worse)...what do you think??????? Alan
Catch him in a net and while still in it. Drip neat methylene blue over the affected area. Just one or two drops will be enuff. Don't get it in the gills, keep it in the net for about a minute (seems a long time) then release back into the tank. Warning. Beware of splashes, this is a very good dye and hard to remove. Don't get it on your own skin, may be a good idea to wear gloves while doing the operation. Alan
Caper
neat methylene blue Is this the same as Melafix? If not, I don't have any? Fish out of water for a whole minute...I definetely would have thought that would kill him...along with the stress of being in the net for so long. Darn...I just noticed that one of the neons has part of his tail fin missing, the top part is almost gone!
Caper
Sailfin update! The last time I posted he was "not himself" at all...really lethargic...so I started treating with the melafix. Within a couple of days he was back to himself :bounce: However, the fin hasn't completely recovered...starting to look like its growing back (luckily, there wasn't much gone). Question, tonight will be the 7th day of treating with the melafix (went with the directions on the bottle). It says you can continue treatment if necessary. Since he seems to be fine, and tail seems to getting better...I'm not going to continue the treatment...what are your opinions on this???? This is the tank that I had the trouble with it being cloudy...well, not carbon filter for a week and extremely cloudy. So, it recommends on the bottle after 7 days of treatment do a 25% water change...do you think that will be sufficient???? All opinions and recommendations would be appreciated :bounce:
craig
hi caper, just follow what the bottle say's,25%. if your not happy with water, you could do another 25% later in week. all sound's good  glad your sailfin is on the mend shelley P.S put carbon back in. LYNDYLOO
Pleased to hear that your Sailfin Molly has recovered, rather neat fishies, I have 2 Dalmations Mollies, and yes it's very frustrating when the tank doesn't look nice and clean, I always had a problem with the water going cloudy, after I had added fertiliser for my plants, but nothing that a few water changes wont fix. Happy fishing.
