What usally makes a tank break at the bottom, i had a 4 foot tank decide to crack and deposit all its water over my floor the other day. Apart from 1/4 water change 5 days earlier nothing in the tank has been moved or added.

Tank is approx 1 1/2 yrs old and was level on a custom made metal stand.

Insurance said i need a reason?? any idea's from anyone would be great as i havent got a clue why it did crack. Cheers All.

Tell them you had a small quake

You could also say the stand beneath it warped.

Tanks crack for a number of reasons, age, stress, being hit with a solid object...

It takes the smallest grain of dirt between the tank and the polystyrene to be enough to stress the base and have it crack. Sometimes it will take years to do so. There may also have been a fault in the glass, unseen to the naked eye.

Cichlids get blamed a lot.

You know, tunnel under stones,

KA-BOOM

Ask Rob.

He appears to having experience with getting carpet cleaners out before start time.

Earthquakes are also kewl as Caryl said

Even if it was VERY localised.

Gee Kiwibird...sorry to hear about your break :( Did you loose any fish?

Insurance companies.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

You need a "reason"...yes sir, tank broke, water all over floor IT BROKE DUH!!!!! Why...gee, just tell them you felt like making a mess and took a sledge hammer to it

That's as bad as when my brother lost his leg years ago...I forget who it was he was seeing...but they asked for proof that he lost his leg. Come on now, I know its all about paper work...but sometimes...really. He wasn't a magician they could "see"...one leg only!
