Goldie
Tonight I discovered that my young angels have laid their first lots of eggs up a piece of valleseria and are taking good care of them. while the marbelled female is fanning them the young golden male is bravely seeing off the earth eater and two kribensis which share the 80 litre hexagon tank. Yes there will have to be another tank set up so that the angels have the tank to themselves. Thanks guys/gals I just needed to share some of my excitement. Kriber
Good job Goldie , hope you can raise some to a saleable size then you can lie to your husband telling him their worth a fortune and that the hobby is finally going to pay for itself
Goldie
:-) great being able to share with you all. The eggs are still there and still being looked after by parents. Kribs' are being kept to bottom of tank and earth eater is allowing the male to move him on. Now the male is fanning the eggs. I do not expect fry to survive. With the kribensis, earth eater etc in the tank. However of course deep down I am hoping. See how crazy fishkeeping makes one :-)
Caryl
Have you got some brine shrimp hatching?

Goldie
well I thought the angels were eating the eggs and I was so very very wrong. They are picking up any moving eggs and transferring them to the shark II filter case, They are fanning the eggs on the valleseria and transferring any movers and also fanning those and constantly retrieving invisible (to my eye) things and returning them to the filter base. Caryl
They should also be getting rid of the fungussed ones too while they are at it. Fins and fingers crossed. Have you found some brine shrimp eggs yet? I would have thought most lfs would have them.
Goldie
the fungused ones remain and are spreading to other eggs. The wrigglers are definitely wriggling. No not found any yet. I will be going to Christchurch tomorrow morning early to get some. Maybe some infusia as well. If the roads are not closed due to the fires at Burnham area. Rotten Nor Wester howling around drying everything even further. Back to angels, the whole leaf of valleseria is almost moving.
Goldie
i messed up the first spawning by changing water and losing the fry through turbulance :-? 2nd spawning the fry were lost because the parents moved them to the filter. Same with the 3rd 4th time I saw the pre spawning cleaning and moved the filter down to the bottom of the tank - hid it behind the catfish pipe. Angels spawned on valleseria - excellent parents. I managed to keep my fingers out of the tank (interferring itch) 5th day now and the fry are all eyes and the egg sacs are shrinking. They are having small swims before the parents scoop them up and spit them back onto the nest of valleseria. Some friends are hatching brine shrimp from eggs I gave them, I have fluid fry food as back up for when needed. Thanks for the support folks. Pegasus the night light definitely was one of the factors in the successful rearing. I will keep this post up to date.

peety
Congrats.... I'm amazed how much attention some fish pay to their young while others just breed prolifically. Also love the way mum and dad tend to share the workload... Congrats again, pics please.
Goldie
Great Caryl hope you have a few 100 pink n blue booties for them So far so good. Down to a few hundred fry now. Free swimming and feeding on diluted liquid fry food. Parents still doing a sterling job. I have removed the shark internal filter and left the u/g one. Parents are keeping fry to the top of the tank among the valleseria. Did water change today (very gently) This is just sheer excitement and even hubby (non fishy person) has been sneaking looks 8)

Goldie
they are cute I just stare at them ...........a lot Caryl has seen them and helped show me how to strain and rinse the brine shrimp and then feed it to the fry. We did not take any pics though due to time factor. All is still going well. They swim using most of the tank now. Second lot of brine shrimp is now being hatched.
