HandS
This guy has been in a established breeding tank (60x30x30) with a female for well over a week, scince then he has been feed white worms, discuss tucker and JBL novobits. The water has been at 28 degreese, ph of 6.2, kh is less than 20ppm and small (aprox 10%) water changes twice a week. Up until yesterday morning he was fine, displaying to his female, luring her to there cave, and protecting the cave from dither fish (bronze cory and bn) but scince then he has been hanging around the surface (not gasping for air) and has started to look bloated. I suspect dropsy but i thought id get some ideas from others, as the scails arnt showing the pine cone effect. Thanks in advance Helen and Shane
craig
he doesn't look very happy give the tank a slightly bigger waterchange, just incase there are toxin's!!! and stop feeding JBL novabits for a while, and the other discus tucker, especially if it is beef-heart in it. just try a JBL flake for a few days. he has a bit of a bulge around anal, could just be food related problem. hopefully ,this is what i would try, but see what others think. good luck

Alan
I sometimes wonder at the age of the fish offered for sale when you compare their size. When ever I go killie hunting, I don't get the big ones. I look for the teenagers, all their life in front of them. Not the geriatic aquarium. new zealand discus man
Hi from phill collis I have had Discus do the same ..gut swells and 4 or 5 days later just up and die..real waste.. I have actually seen bactrica in gut.. with microscope look like thousands of shimmering stars but understand as bactrica, interesting that they die before your eyes because of oxygen. the aquatic world have over used antibotics just like in us and no longer work .. Dont know if low PH like 4 is possible with them funny ,not looking like Discus fish .but Discus can have no problems at that level and no repeat no bactrica can breed at so low..even filters bugs go to sleep..but this if fish still alive , about a week later fish have got on top and even when PH increased never get attacked again..cheers Phill
