misnoma
Hopefully an easy question I've added water/salt to the new tank, only other thing in there is about 1" of sand. I rinsed the sand before adding and got most of the dust etc off it, however there's still bits and pieces floating around in the water. When the tank's running, there's no mechanical filtration obviously, so what's the best way to get the stuff that's currently floating around out? Put an internal filter in there for a day or so before anything else goes in? I haven't gotten any carbon yet (picking up tomorrow), I'm guessing that's not going to remove solids from the water though. Thoughts? cookie extreme
i used the filter cartridges that were supplied with my powerheads and used filter wool with great success. only needed for a couple of days and it removed lots of crap. just rinse often. misnoma
My powerheads lack filter cartridges (seios), however will thief an internal filter and fill it with filterwool Only needs to be done once hopefully, just to clear the floating stuff
Ira
Don't worry too much about it, they'll settle out eventually.
suphew
Skimmer should pick it up to, the couple of times I have had to move the sand round in my sump the skimmer has gone nuts and cleared it pretty quickly. Last big move round I did (moved every peice of equipment in the sump and all the sand) I couldnt see an inch into the display tank, but it was cystal clear the next day
cracker
A good sized skimmer will almost skim it overnight.
