Feelers
Hi all, found this skimmer design the other day, it seems simple to build and isnt really tall like lots of diy skimmers. I'm geussing its based on one of the proper commercial skimmers, so can anyone geuss as to how good this design would be? What size tank would this be good for with say a 4000lph pump? the main skimmer page http://www.tonmo.com/cephcare/DIYskimmer.php this is the schematic for the whole thing: http://www.tonmo.com/images/cephcare/DIYskimmer/diagram11.jpg
Brianemone
what would it use for air injection??
Pies
Its the RC DIY model. Its a venturi. There are guys using variants on this skimmer running 500 gallon tanks. biggest downside, its venturi. Still if you have the skills, it would be well worth the effort. Reef had a massive (person size) venturi skimmer made, they guy from this site (Desh) did a perfect job. Looked to be a great skimmer, but venturi has some issues, the big one being you need grunty pumps to drive the venturi. So power consumption and noise are up, as is cost as large pressure rated pumps are expensive. I think Reefs was run by an Iwaki 100, which is 1/3 a HP just to make bubbles... Brianemone
it looks very similar to the aquac ev series. i would mod that design a little to make it a beckett (better air injection than venturi from what ive heard )
ghostface
This is bacically a copy of an AquaC. I dont think you could make one any cheaper than importing one to NZ
