Snowman
As i understand it to be classed as an albino a guppy must be of whitish colour and have red eyes, so what would a whitish/clear guppy be called? Guessing it would be a whitish/clear guppy. Wondering about this auction on Trade Me http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction_detail.asp?id=33363832
mustcooktea
It sounds like he has a colourless female and at 1 cm long the fry may not be showing adult colouration yet. Not that I know much about guppies but I do know that albinos have red eyes!
Melanie
If I were in Auckland I reckon I'd bid the $2.50 just to have a look.
PENEJANE
I reckon it should be labled "False Albino" as it is not of true breed. But thats just my 2Cents worth
Melanie
I've heard of partial albinos in other animals. I'd have to see them to decide, though. Pity he hasn't posted pics.
Snowman
I agree PENEJANE, it's either a pure breed or it's not. I wonder if it's like a dog, could it be a mongrel guppy LOL To even be a partial albino one of the parents would have to be a pure albino. If neither parents are albino it would be a bit like breeding a pit bull and a staffy and calling the results a labrador LOL
Melanie
I thought albino was usually recessive and two non-albino parents could have an albino baby. I used to have hamsters and I had albinos and partial albinos. The partial albinos would have no pigment except in their eyes.
Faran
Like GBAs (Golden Black-Eyed Ancestrus/Bristlenose) you can have a golden version with black eyes. I have a female about ready to pop that has this colouration. Not sure who the poppa is though. Saw a male guppy at LFS today that was basically golden snakeskin. Wanted to take him home but $7 for a guppy and the thought of the strange guppy diseases out there made me walk away... with only some black neons for the Discus tank. Snowman
True and a GBA with red eyes is called an Albino Ancistrus, same as an Albino pleco has red eyes LOL
Faran
This is the male guppy I saw at the LFS the other day... http://www.guppies.com/PAGES/guppixpages/gp13.html
Melanie
This is the male guppy I saw at the LFS the other day... http://www.guppies.com/PAGES/guppixpages/gp13.html I have one of those from boxers. Spitting image, only still developing. He's one I'm looking to trade, actually, so if you'd like him, he's yours. He was the one who was in the bad tank though, and I've put him back now. Faran
Really? All yellow and white, no red or black? Wicked! Save me the $7 I was about to spend on him if the other breeder didn't have any. I found out the guppy I'm after is called a red mosiac and that one is a yellow golden king cobra (pic above). So yeah, hopefully I get some more blues so we can do a trade!
Melanie
Hmm, mine does have some black on him, just not on his body. This one looks like he's got it on his tail. I can try to photograph him for you...
Faran
Good luck! If he's anything like our guppies it'll be near impossible...
Melanie
I tried and failed. He is very shy. The others are not shy.
