minchton
My present marine tank is 1500x700hx800d. It has 2x150mh lights and 2 fluros in a metre holder. The tank is working with this set-up. I am considering changing to a new tank 1800x600x640. would I need to add an extra halide for the extra length or can I stay with what I have got. Any help appreciated thanks
Pies
My 5 footer (1600Lx700Wx650H) suffered under 2 halides. I belive it could have used the 3rd in the middle. I had 4x 85watt T5s but really felt it needed more punh and spread. If I had kept it I would have gone for a single 400 in the middle, and burned in as 'high noon' lighting. Brianemone
any reason for changing to a tank that has pretty much the same volume??
minchton
Yes The new tank is better set up with a properly plumbed sump with dividers. And it would take up less room in the lounge. With the plumbing it would be almost 300mm closer to the wall. depending on the answers I get it may even be better to consider replumbing the existing tank
chimera
depends on what you're keeping, if sps, then 3 halides on that size wont be enough. i have similar setup on your current tank, 5 foot with 2 halides, just NOT enough light. go more halides or maybe add mixture of halides and t5's
cookie extreme
5 foot with 2 halides, just NOT enough light very true, i use 4 M/H (3*150 and 1*400) over my tank which is 2200*710*
chimera
what size are your reflectors, do they cover most of the surface area?
minchton
there is 2 150mh in a reflector which is 1000mm long they are seperated by 200mm fluros. The reflector is a commercially made one. The reflector sits approx 250mm in from each end. there is a tendancy for there to be only low light reflection at the sides of the tank and little lighting at the rear but this is not a problem as I have no corals to the rear. each of the mh's are normal size i.e about 200x200. Are you sort of suggesting that I would need further lighting whichever way I go. Your experience is appreciated

Caryl
Mitch did I remember to send you copies of the pics I took of your tank? That link just takes me to the main page to sign up with the site, it doesn't show the pics.
