Well i will get it started I currently have 2 arowanas. 1 silver arowana 12 inches big (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)and 1 Pearl arowana 10 inches big(Scleropages jardini). I currently kept them in a 6'*2'*2' tank filtration is a eheim 2217. Water temp is set at 27 degrees and ph is 7.2. I also kept with them 1 siam tiger (little jonathon), 2 silver dollars, 1 banded leporinus, and 1 royal panaque. I do a 50% water change once a week. My next arowana will (have to twist partners wrist) a asian arowana hopefully a red but will be happy to get either a gold or a green, either of these will be a nice addition. :P

Well here I am... hehehe... I don't think there is anyone on this board with an arowana... could be wrong though.... there could be some lurkers around with arowanas... come out and tell us !!!

OK... I got mine...about 2 months ago... it is a silver arowana... when I got it, it was about 7 or 8 inches... now it is around....errr.... 9 to 10 inches i think... dunno how old it is... proabaly between 8 to 12 months.

I feed it floating pellets (Hikari brand, recently switched to Tetra but it wont touch the stuff... spits them back out... will have to starve her for a few days), beef heart/liver, frozen bloodworms, flies, moths and feeder fish (very rarely). The tank is 4ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft, not quite big enough when it grows up so I am looking to upgrade to a 6x2x2 possibly. It lives with a 3" Siam Tiger, a 5" white/gold tiger Oscar, a 10" pleco, two 4" silver sharks, three 3" clown loaches and 2 apple snails (basically everything I have in my sig).

Future plans... an asian aro... maybe some freshwater crayfish...more clown loaches, siam tigers, oscars... wish to breed some fish someday... maybe a tropical tank...

Just wondering... maybe we would get more response if you posted one about Siam Tigers?? Would be more ppl with them I think...

When I was last at Organism a few days ago... they told me that they had a Siam Tiger there a couple of weeks ago that would eat simply anything u fed it... wish I had one like that... mine refuses everything... and only eats live food... only frozen food I have managed to get it to eat is frozen mysis shrimps... a lady bought that siam tiger... wonder if she is on this board...

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I have a silver arowana. Its about 1 yr old and its 16" now. I feed it Hikary Chiclid Pellets. It lives in the same tank with a 8" tiger oscar. the tank is 3x2x2 it has out grown it!! Planning to upgrade when I have enough $$$ 20% water change every week. 1 feeding per day.

BTW Richard, Jensen at Wairau Park, Northshore, Auckland is doing a deal on asian arowana. they are giving away $1350 worth of equipment if you but an arowana from them. They have panda gold for $2750 and panda red for $4750.

Macka, how did you acquire a jardini?? Have not seen them on sale at any LFS.

Rgds.

Cant relly say where i got the jardini from sorry due to not wanting to upset anyone and due to the fact they arnt on the allowable list (who needs this list anyway  ) I have been in touch with david at jansens regarding the asians, but i have spent all my play money on the zebras, but hopefully will be able to buy one in a few months time (bloody partner  ) Sorry Aj havent seen the arowana pond, but would sure love to, its a shame they didnt have photos of them, but i know i wouldnt be able to help myself and would have to lean over the surfice for a little look (and with some crickets in my pocket :P ). The only story i have heard that there is someone in the north island breeding green asian arowanas for food fish overseas  this is a bit far fetched but it has come from a good source that has seen them :-? , any tips where to find him/her as i would love to get one :D

not a prob macka. Too bad MAF is not allowing more type of aros into NZ.. I would not think they would survive in NZ's freshwater creeks and ponds anyway!!Furthermore, these days ppl in asia are breeding them commercially for sale, I dont think they will go extinct so soon!! I just wished they would bring in some cheaper asian aros!

sorry, I hv not heard of anyone rearing aros for food fish in AKL!! It would be interesting if it is true.
