Snowman
Yay i've just found eggs in my males hidey hole after waiting a few mths, but what is the chance of them surviving in a community tank with 2 large angels, 2 rams , 1 large & 2 small/medium clown loaches, 2 angelicious loaches, 2 yo-yo loaches, 2 striata loaches and 2 queen loaches. I'm picking no show but after loosing a ton of guppies i've got my fingers crossed.
misnoma
I found with three clown loaches and two skunk loaches dad still managed to keep em off the eggs. The angels could be another story though, depends if they can get to where the eggs are I guess. I now have two spawns kicking around the tank, batch one are ~2.5cm and batch two about .8-1cm, neither seem to get bothered by the loaches at all. rnbo
Yay...go Daddy bristle! Hopefully he'll see the eggs right! Cheers
Snowman
Cool i'll keep my fingers crossed, only other option is a 500mm tank with 6 medium platties. I'll try community tank and if they all dissappear i'll try the small tank.

Snowman
He was by himself for about 4yrs when my father had him, i was starting to wonder if he knew what to do LOL Typical my GBA (different tank) stopped laying about 1 mth ago, looks like they've swapped now.
misnoma
Heh.. not sure how many you get every time the GBA spawn, but after two spawns of the common b/n I have over 200, so am looking at swapping pairs with someone They certainly don't seem to do things by halves. Snowman
The GBA averaged around 50 per spawn, wish it was 100
heather
Yeah but what can you do with them if you manage to grow them out?
Lucid
the only prob you may find is that once the fry are out and swimming round the angels will pick them off, depending on the size of the angels tho. All the Best. B
Snowman
Ok the eggs have hatched and i now have eggs with tails and eyes, dads doing his best to keep them safe inside ,1 tried to escape and not sure what happened to it. Is it a good idea to leave a light on for dad to see to defend them or is this just going to enable the angels to see the fry? By the way the angels are fully grown around 80-90mm high excluding finnage.
misnoma
I didn't leave the lights on for mine when they spawned, in fact I didn't see anything till the young were free swimming. One thought I did have is possibly move tank decorations, driftwood, whatever so it's difficult to get to where dad and the babies are, with angels that size it shouldn't be too hard to make the area somewhat inaccessable. Once the babies are free swimming/escaping from dad they should be well fast enough to evade the angels (my 2wk old fry scare the guppies when they zoom around )
Snowman
Mmmm hadn't thought of that, got a couple of bits i can pilfer from other tanks that will help. Noticed the loaches having a dig around almost trying to get in from underneath but dont want to push it into the substrate as there may be fry underneath. But will put bits around to discourage them. Thanks all
misnoma
I had loaches in the tank (clown and skunk) when the second lot were laid/hatched, they didn't seem to cause any trouble.. Dad does actually do a pretty good job, and is big/scary enough that the loaches scampered
HummingBird
Congrats snowman, it'll be quite a feat if they make it to adulthood, but here's hoping!
Snowman
Fingers crossed, thanks Simon, only prob is a couple of queen and a couple of angelicious loaches trying to get in underneath without Mr b/nose seeing them oh and a 6+ " clown loach that is not scared of Mr b/nose, hopefully he/she cant get past my fortifications LOL
Snowman
Curiosity got the better of me after not seeing any fry yet, so i very slowly lifted up his cave (chopper) and had a look inside and yay could see about 20 fry without looking to hard, so now i know they are alive it will be interesting to see how many survive the maurauding mouths of the other fish. I've got a 40ltr with 6 mid size platties in so they will probably go in there but don't want to take them off dad to soon, thinking Tues-Wed which will give me time to adjust water to suit.
