PENEJANE
I got a new tank today (hehehehehe) and its only a small 5.7ltr tank for my baby fry and maybe a hospital/breeding tank. I was wondering to help it set up sooner will I be able to add water from my previous tank to this tank with out having to wait a week or so?? The filter has bio balls, activated carbon and sponge. It is just a small tank for my fry at present as there is to many to go into a breeding trap. So would adding water from my tank be ok or do I have to set it up and let it run a week first?? Would like to set it up as soon as possible before to many fry get eaten. cheers
jude
Can you move some of the filter material from your existing tank over to your new one? That would speed up the cycling and make it possible to add fish almost immediately. The water does not contain much bacteria so it would be of little use but moving some of the gravel might help - not sure about that method because I think you can stir up anaerobic bacteria and pollute the existing tank. Cheers Jude (parroting what she has seen others say  )
misnoma
Stick the filter for the new tank into the old tank and let it run in there for a few days to a week... that way it'll get nicely primed with bacteria before you hurl it in the new tank with the guppy fry. Bluetom
i did as misnoma said and put the filter in my old tank. Have had zero ammonia since i setup my new tank more than a month ago, even though i added a large number of fish
