Can i just syphon say half the water from the old tank into the new tank and then put the filters and Fish in or do i need to cycle it? suphew Posted June 19, 2005 Report Share Posted June 19, 2005 The gravel and filters are the important part to move to save the tank cycling. Moving the water just means you don't risk the water parameters changing too much for when you move the fish (there is very little bacteria in the water). It might also pay to do a few large water changes every second day or so for a week or two, because you will stir up alot of crud in the garvel when you move it. I didnt move the gravel from the old tank as the new tank was in use up till i purchased it and i used the gravel from the new tank. Also at 360 litres i had to add a fare amount of fresh water.
