GeeTee
G'day all, My son has two goldfish and one of them has developed what looks like a rash under one of it's side fins. Could this be a rash or something more sinister? Cheers Greg
Caryl
Rash? Not sure if fish can get rashes. Is it possible it has scraped itself against something?
GeeTee
Hi Caryl, Anything is possible as it is only on one side. As my son is only 7 years old that sounds like a good thing to tell him. Will make sense to him. Thankyou Greg

Wok
When was the last time you changed water? does it look like there is a bit of white fungus growing around the edges of the rash?
Caryl
Also keep an eye out for red streaks on the fin. It is possible it is a sign of something more sinister but here's hoping he has just scraped himself on something.
GeeTee
Thanks for all the info but it has disappeared over the weekend so am guessing it must have rubbed against something. Water changes are weekly. What did you think it may have been wok just so I can watch for it in the future? Greg
Wok
What other fish do you have with your goldfish? I have had experience with rosy barbs having a fetish for Goldfish meat... (No more rosy barbs now ) If the water changes are not regular the fins of the fish will have red lines running through them and the fins will begin to split as well as the area around the gills will tend to get a bit of a fungus. Since you are doing regular water changes this should not happen. Good to hear that the rash has gone away.
GeeTee
There are 3 sailfin mollies in with them at the moment, about an inch long, They are only there untill I get my own tank running. Tank, cabinet and hood all built just have to buy filter, heater and put a light in the hood and my tank will be ready to run. I built everything from scratch just for fun,to see if it was for me or not. It looks good. Greg
