Caper
So these guys are oscars? I thought they were a darker fish...or do they come in various colors too? I also didn't realize they were cichlids. Have to catch up on my reading again treehugga...will their coloring change? Amazing looking fish
treehugga
Hi Caper, according to my research these are "super reds" Someone please correct me if im wrong). they are more orange than red. As they have got older the black around their fins has faded a bit, but they shouldnt lose the orange. They are awesome fish to watch and they like attention to the point of lying down all depressed if they dont get any.
Caper
Hi treehugga Are oscars the fish that will let you pet them? Are they considered aggressive?
treehugga
they will let you pet them if they are tame enough but you can damage them this way if you are not carefull. Mine are not aggressive . they are reasonbly intellegent (compared to other fish that is  ) if not a little clumsey. They will eat almost anything. Im starting another post to see how many types we have out there.
misnoma
They're generally not agressive unless provoked.. however they are greedy, and if the oscar thinks it will fit in it's mouth, it's fair game
