morgie
Hey, Just wondering how everybody does there water changes because i just got a new tank and i vacuum out the water but the hard part is putting it in. i use a 1l jug and try to warm water to the same temp as the tank. just wondering how i should change my water and a quick method of changing it. Also i wanted to know if i need to heat up the water before i put it in the tank to stop fish stressing or dying. thanx , morgie
Caryl
The lounge tank I fill with a python but the computer tank is too far from taps so I run the garden hose through the window and fill it with cold. I have never worried about equalising temps. Think about fish in a pond. They bask on the surface in summer but if startled they dive down to the deeper parts. There is often quite a difference between the surface temp and that of the bottom depths.
suphew
For my fresh water changes I use 10 Liter plastic watering cans, I do add some hot water but the amount is pretty ramdom, I do around 30% and even with the added hot water the temp swings 4-5 degrees. In my marine I use 3x20 Liter containers (purchase from the warehouse) and just dump it straight in with no warming.
Snowman
I use a 10 ltr watering can as well, i use an old 3 ltr orange juice bottle (water blasted inside to clean it out LOL) of hot water in and top it up with cold no Stress Coat or anything else just straight tap water. Seems 30% hot water 70% cold gives mine a temp of 25 deg, depends on how hot your water cylinder is of course
jude
I just use the hose. I worked out that 1" of water in my tank is almost 40 litres and I use that to calculate how much chlorine remover to use. I squirt the remover in first then use the hose. The fish love it, they keep swimming through the cold water. Don't blame me - Wok told me to  I am not sure I will be able to do it in winter though - unless I do small changes more often. And if I do that I might just as well use a bucket and warm the water!!! Cheers Jude
