Caper
Try again! Fishies First Pic It looks like my tank is narrow in the back...but it isn't...must be the way I took pic. This was taken before I had The Three Stooges. Oh my...it is working...thank you so much for all your help folks...I used www.photobucket.com The Little One 1 of The Three Stooges Sam & 1 of The Three Stooges If anyone can make out The Three Stooges...I was told they were GloLight Tetras...but from what I read on the net...sounds more like black neon tetras????? So...what do you think...does it look okay...do I have too much in tank???
livebearer_breeder
Your tank if very colourful. IMO, I would have to say that the "three stooges" are neither black neon or Glowlight, However i cannot tell you what they might be as i do not know. Maybe some kind of Minnow? HummingBird
They're definately tetras, that's no mistake. They could be either species and just have really faded colour for one reason or another, it's hard to tell. Do you have any more pictures of them?
livebearer_breeder
They could be either species They are Deffinatly not Glowlight tetra, at the base of the tail Glowlights have two small forking ash marks on either side of the orange strip. The fish in this picture has a stronge Black Dot in the middle of the base of its tail, And what looks like a faded black strip on one side of its body. Again i doubt it is a Black Neon. spooky
Remember that the photo has been taken with a flash, not the best for bringing out the true colours in a fish. I think that it could be a black neon, but most of the stripe is obscured by the reflection off the upper body. I can't find any better match in my books - although my most comprehensive one somehow manages to make the tail of a red-tailed black shark look yellow, so I'm not sure how good this info is. Speaking of flashes - anyone with glass catfish should try photgraphing them with a flash, it brings the skeleton into sharp contrast and the red-eye makes them look positively demonic! Caper
Tried again to get pics of the tetras...in my newbie, unprofessional opinion, still thinking these guys are black neon tetras. So...can you tell any better with these pics... AND how do you get the fish to pose for the camera
Caper
Black neon tetras...yes..no...yes...no :-? When I was at the pet store in Halifax...saw black neon tetras. The ones they had there...the black on the bottom was darker than mine. Someone showed me a pic of one here, can't remember who though, sorry  can't find it! Anyway, the guy at the pet store said that my fish weren't mature yet. Does anybody know if that could be the case? How long do fish take to mature? And...does it make a difference if male or female...I mean...after all...most women would say that we mature faster than men...JK...JK...JK
Caper
OH...I don't know if this makes a difference...but I do notice that the tetras in question...when it's feeding time...they will zip up to the top of water to get the food as well as feed as the flakes fall...I've rarely seen the neons go up to the top. livebearer_breeder
Your pet store Doesnt know what ther talking about. Black neons get the line alot more early on in there lives than the semi adult tetra you have there. I took some pictures of my Black neons with the flash on and no aqaurium light and they looks like urs, so i would now have to say, yes they probably are Black neons. Caper
Thank you Shae It is now settled; they are black neons Shae, one of the three has always been smaller than the other two and he/she swims most of the time as if on a...say... about 45 degree angle...and ideas on this?
livebearer_breeder
Most likeley a swim bladder problem, aslong as hes eating would worry to much, Hes is most likley a he if he is smaller than the other two, is he skinny? and do the other two have slightly prodruding stomachs or rounded stomahcs. Shae
Caper
Thanks Shae, He eats just fine...and scoots up to get the flakes no problem...I wouldn't say he is skinny...just smaller than the others...their stomachs...ummm...rounded I guess, definitely not protruding...they look fine...if you have seen any of my pics...I believe they are "normal" looking
Caper
Shae...I've been looking on the net about swim bladder...most of the sites say the fish are swimming on their sides, head down...don't see anything about on an angle   anyway...none of the sites said if it was contagious or not...I'm thinking not but wanted to check this with you? Well I'm not worried thanks to you...because he is eating and he's been like this pretty much since the time I got him/her
livebearer_breeder
I wouldnt worry its not contagious, but its the only thing i can think of that would attribute to the swimming on and angle, unless hes hurt his fins. Shae
