Blue Ram Aggression

BGK2

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've had 3 Blue Rams for about 2 months now. Suddenly 1 of them is becoming aggressive. Guarding a certain spot.

I was thinking that he maybe protecting eggs or something but I don't see any eggs and he's guarding the spot by himself. Not in a pair (which I would expect if they were spawning).

My tanks a 55 gallon (200L) with drift wood and plants. I got some discus and rummy nose with the blue rams.

The blue ram only stared to get aggressive today. Before that they would only fight with each other. Now they attack my discus and rummy nose if they go near his spot.

Any ideas?

I haven't added any new fish or change anything since I got my blue rams.

It does sound like there may be eggs - they may be on the underside of a rock or in a small hollow in the substrate.  They can be very difficult to sight - you may see a shimmering on the substrate which could be wrigglers.  Otherwise change up the hardscape a bit and give plenty of individual areas with broken lines of sight.

It is not uncommon for rams to parent individually or take turns.
