Mollymate
Crowntail Female/s or a breeding pair. Does anyone have any please. If not what can I use to breed to get them. I have two Males (although not wonderful specimans) but only have halfmoon females. Really want to do it properly just for the sake of it. Dumb newbie here so appreciate all the help I can get lol
Trilobite
If you go onto https://www.facebook.com/groups/150909571710093/ theres a couple of people with female cts and ct spawns. Also check out here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=66076 Adrienne shows how to get nice ct girls from an original ct x non ct spawn (takes a few generations though) Good luck on your search! Mollymate
:bggrn: You are talking to a real dumbiiii here very new to this, Not sure what crowning is...........da. Have got some pics on my phone, just have to figure out how to get them onto here, so bear with me.
chaos0wnage
Hi again, Crowning is when the rays in the tail are sticking out of the border like how crowntails have long rays (spikes) with little webbing. Most storebought betta females have some degree of crowning and usually its eliminated when breeders choose what they want to breed for except when they choose to breed crowntail lol
Mollymate
 Thanks for that. Looking at them I would say no they don't stick out the ends. Still trying to get photos from phone to Computor but phone won't play the game, will keep trying.

Adrienne
To put them on here you will need to create a photobucket account which is free or you can email them to me [email protected] and I will pop them up for you. Eventually you will need to open an account though as most people on the forum do want pictures from time to time

Adrienne
Mollymates halfmoon girls -
Adrienne
Are you sure these are all girls. The bottom right one looks like a possible male to me. Unfortunately they are not half-moons, I suspect two tail types have been crossed to get these fish. You will still be able to cross them with a good strong crowntail male but it might take a while to get a good looking batch of fry. This photo is of a crowntail female. If she was a halfmoon female her tail would be this shape - a perfect D where it starts to branch off her body. The D shape is what you are looking for when you buy half-moons, both male and female. If the top and bottom of the I curve to the ) then it is not a true half-moon.
Mollymate
I will try and send you the boy again. Three of the girls I was told when I brought them they were HM dragon females, shows how you can be duped when you don't know. Was a breeder not shop, the other two I brought at animates so could well not be HM. The Whitey ones and one reddy one are supposedly HM - I wonder know if the Male is a true HM dragon, will try and send you a pic of him. He looks a little tatty as he has just come out of the breeding tank.
Mollymate
:cry1: I don't think I will breed these girls to crowntails, will try and wait to see if I can find a CT female, it is always an option if I can't get one. I also have a Super Delta described as copper - Has turquoise body with Mustard gas coloured fins and a Veil tail Red both Males and a white CT but he isn't that nice, they are just to look at although the Red boy is lovely. Adrienne
There is nothing wrong with using the females you have for the first generation ct x with your male however if you do only keep the best and don't sell on the rest but cull them. There are a few people around selling ct x females - I think Binu from this forum is one of them. You are highly unlikely to find a pure ct female import in any shop unless you go somewhere like Redwoods who have their own quarantine facility and import their own stock. Most shops buy off the main wholesalers and they don't bring a lot of any specialised females in. If you are looking on TM or the forum any female with spikes, no matter how small on the fins and the tail is likely to have some ct in her - this pic belowis an example, but any spiking no matter how small. I know of no one in the country working on pure CT lines, I was the last one and stopped at least two years ago.
Mollymate
:dno: Gosh thanks for that. Looking at them maybe only one could be HM. So what would you class the others as and what would be the best type of male for them, if any??
Guest
hi there, there are a few on the facebook forum working on pure ct lines atm. so you may want to try and get to a computer
Mollymate
:fshi: Thanks for that. I have been in touch with a couple of them. Waiting for some pics.
chaos0wnage
There are combtails on TM but its in chch and the seller won't respond to me, grab some of those if you have friends at chch. I say go with comb because those are which you can cross for faster access to more CT'S the C here standing for Crown. :f77: Its only Superdelta x CT and therefore you should get best spread of le tail if you get access to those ones from TM. Where did you get those fish btw? If the tail overlaps with top and bottom fins when flared it'll confirm if hm if not then god only knows what cross. I had a few I had to get rid of when I ordered from chch it was mix of pk and pure hm... wondering if you got em from me? It gets harder to breed them as they age(females) cause they demand a stronger male. I suggest you get that CT in as soon as you can with one of the girls... see what happens. if it works then you can go on with Adrienne's suggestion of step breeding over several generations. Birdbarn had some CT females few months ago but looked a bit old. Dunno about now but I do mean to go there again soon.
Mollymate
:dno: Thank you for your advice. I must say i am impressed with the help I have got from Adrienne and yourself. I have the boy in the breeding tank and have started conditioning him. Haven't quite decided which female to try him with yet,, the one in the photo is probably to big, so might have to go with one of the smaller girls. The two bigger girls I brought from Animates in Takanini. The three smaller ones which are supposedly HM's came from a guy in Mangere, really nice guy. I brought a HM Dragon male from him also, really lovely and he has very full flowing fins, I am not too worriesd as they are lovely fish, tried to send a photo to Adrienne but for some reason she hasn't received it. Have a small spawn from him and the crimson female. Only small cos my first time, so waiting to see what they are like.
chaos0wnage
Oh yep, sounds sweet. Its good that you have a batch going... will be nice to see how they turn out. I'm in New Windsor so couldn't be me... plus the ones I got had dragon gene on them. Let me know if you need any more help. A good crowntail is hard to find is yours a king crowntail? its not clear from photos
