Bolivian cichlids

:dnc1: Wahoo!!!!

I was feeding my Dwarfs and noticed my female Bolivian's breeding tube was very.... right there.

On closer inspection, saw lots of eggs on a flat rock that she was fanning!

What a surprise because, 1; I didn't know they were even looking to breed as haven't shown any sign. And 2; I thought they use caves which I've provided but she chose the flat rock right outside the cave entrance. Tried to take photos but camera can't pick them up as they kinda colour camouflaged with the rock. Oooo so exciting though.

Has anyone successfully managed to breed and raise the fry of these little beauties???

Nice one, you must be stoked. They are great little fish :bounce:

I had two pair that would breed every couple of weeks like clockwork. It was a community tank, so usually the wrigglers would get eaten. But one pair found a defensible spot in a corner and managed to raise a school successfully. It took me half a day to catch all 34 of them when I sold them to the LFS

Like yours, mine would lay eggs on flat rocks. Then they dig a pit for the wrigglers when they hatch.

Yes I'm totally over the moon :happy1:

She is bein a great mum and has dug her pit already :digH:

The male is just like "meh" and only comes over very sparingly otherwise stays away. Not much he can do through the pregnancy stage. Wonder if he will step up when the kids are born ha ha. Cheap shot, I know...... :lar:

Annnnnyway hope to have wigglers in next couple days.

Will keep ya all updated :f77:

Dissapointment, all the eggs disappeared while I was having tea and both Bolivian are together on the other side of tank. Though something about the male made me look, and look..... and look some more.

Then blow me over there's a pit of wrigglers :-D WOW. YEHAA. Oh yeh, a pit of wrigglers, oh yeh :dnc1: :happy1: They moved them to other side of tank and looks like the male has stepped up :slfg:

They have hatched. Do you mean when they become free swimmers? As at the moment they doin the funny wee spazy dance ha ha. I have some very fine powdered fry food so thought id get that to sink slowly so the fry can get it. What do you suggest?

Did you get to see the photos via the link? I may need to do it from a computer as that option for pics doesn't seem to be available through my phone internet.
