Currently have a 650L tank with a colony of Fronts 9 largest being approx 18-20 cm, Got some others in there as well including Jack dempsys livingstoni and brown haps, electric yellows demonsoni. Wanting to shuffle things around as wanting to keep to the larger sized fish and make it more simplistic.

Was thinking of keeping the Fronts and JDs and shifting the rest to another tank, but was thinkin of including a Jag approx 18cm whats your thoughts? before you say yes i know its a south american cichlid so are JD but my current water paramaters would accommodate both.

Secondly are red terrors being sold in new zealand, was considering shifting tank to american if able to get the species i am looking for.

Your thoughts would be appreciated

red terrors or festae are here but hard to get a hold of at the moment. if you find any, let me know.

if you're gonna get a jag with all those fronts, make it a male jag, as it will be more aggressive and less likely to get bullied by the fronts.

keep in mind that a 18cm jag will get to 40-50cm in a year or two.

it sounds to me like you have a decision to make regarding which direction you want to take in fishkeeping.

african, or american.

i'm all for americans.

They're actually Central American, not South, and most CA cichlids have water that is closer to that of the rift lakes than their Amazonian cousins, so hard water won't be a problem for the jag or JD.

IME jags tend to be a bit aggro, but if they have a spot to call their own they'll defend it but won't cause too much other trouble. Festae/red terror on the other hand, an 800L tank wasn't big enough to keep my male from killing his mate. After that he was intolerant of any other tankmates, so you might have trouble keeping one with something more mild like fronts.
