snapperhead Posted June 7, 2013 Report Share Posted June 7, 2013 I have 2 bell frogs that have been raied from tadpoles. I placed them both in an outdoor tank and they have been there for about 2 weeks from now. I found them today under a rock and the other in water, thinking that they were dead I picked them up, only to discover that they were still alive. They very rarely move, have become darker in colour, look a bit bloated, don't eat a lot and their skin is not as moist as it used to be. Are they hibernating? alanmin4304 Posted June 7, 2013 Report Share Posted June 7, 2013 Yes. They are not found in the wild as far south as Wellington as I understand it so not sure if they would servive hibernation. Insect Direct Posted September 27, 2013 Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 how are you getting on... more likely southern bell frogs. plenty around wellington. golden bells survive only an hour north of welly though so could possibly be either species. if outdoors in appropriate setup best to leave them to it. They have become more active since the weather has been warming up with increasing sun hours and don't have a problem with feeding either.
