Has anyone measured collected NSW for Ca, Mg or Kh?

it will vary slightly from north to south

try this link http://www.reefkeepers.co.nz/forum/foru ... =11&t=1276

NSW readings are:

kH: 7.0

Mg: 1200

Ca: 370

Salinity: 1.027

When you collect your NSW, add the following for every 100 litres of NSW makeup water to bring levels up to required ranges for a reef tank.

kH: Add 6 grams (1.2 teaspoons) of Baking Soda (to bring alkalinity to 9.0kH)

Mg: Add 125 grams of magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate (to bring Mg to 1350ppm)

Ca: Add 18 grams of Calcium Chloride Dihydrate (to bring Ca to 420ppm)

Salinity: Add 7.5 litres of freshwater, preferably RO/DI (to bring salinity down to 1.025 assuming its initially 1.027)

It is of course recommend you test your own NSW first to double check the readings above are inline with what I've found, however this should give you a rough idea of what to add.

Not much help as I cant remember the readings, but I collected NSW from Taylors Mistake on a nice incoming tide.

Standard rules apply, make sure it hasn't been properly raining for 3 days prior, check ECAN's water quality website for whats gross at the moment.

I had to boost Ca Alk and Mg by a small quantity but just roughly the same recipe listed in this thread. In two weeks (after exams are over) I'll be collecting NSW again and I'll post my readings here.

Im thinking I might collect from Te Oka Bay on the South side of Banks Peninsula this time, there are interesting rock pools there and its a nice excuse for a family picnic!

Last time I collected NSW down here (Invercargill):

Ca - 420ppm

Mg - 1170ppm

kH - 143ppm / 8dkH

Salanity - 1.025 to 1.028 (sometimes I don't even have to add RODI water).

All at good levels except for the Magnesium which doesn't take much to bring it a little higher.
