peet
Does anyone use these light fittings for their planted tanks http://www.highfivelighting.co.nz/ I spoke to the manufacturer today and they advised that they can do them on 6500K bulbs and that they are aware of aqaurium users who have them over their tanks.. but could not tell me whether they were working on planted tanks? The price is pretty good at around $170 for a unit...
SamH
That looks like a LOT of light to be putting over an aquarium I'm assuming you're trying to grow something in a very deep tank?
phoenix44
That's a normal amount of light for a densely planted hi tech tank isn't it? I do 54Wx 4 HO on mine.
SamH
I'm battling algae with 2x T5HO, despite pressurized CO2. Guess it depends on the depth of the tank.
Dachende
I don't think you can blame light alone for algae problems. Currently running 6x 39w T5HO , on a 4ft tank (450 deep) - 4x of the pinkish plant bulbs on for 8 hours a day, 2 white light bulbs on for 10-12 hours a day. So 234 watts of light for 10 hours a day & 78 watts for an extra 2 hours after the plant bulbs go off @ night. No issues with algae - and since replanting with a nutrient rich substrate, plants have never been healthier . Whereas when I was running only 2x 39w T5HO for 8 hours a day on the same tank, and dosing ferts / c02 supplements religiously I had algae problems coming out my ears and yellowing plants which barely grew at all. SamH
I agree, lighting alone can't be blamed for algae issues but it's arguably the biggest contributor to algae.
