Anita_ozfish
Hi everyone. My name is Anita doohhhhh  I have been keeping fish for over 20 years and currently have about 53 tanks. I mostly keep Malawis with my favourites being the large Haps but I also keep fronts (6 and 7 bar) and also K2 tropheus moorii as well as anything new I can get my hands on that takes my fancy  I have a few large tanks with Americans also but how I got Americans into my garage is a long story. I was introduced to your forum last weekend by CID in Oz who has been a dear friend since I first started in fish. I will be visiting on a regular basis now as I think sites like these are great for us fishaholics  If anyone is interested, here is a link to the installation of my latest tank, a 10x2x2 which now houses my group of 14 adult Kigoma fronts. http://au.photos.yahoo.com/bc/anita_ozf ... on&.view=t I hope you enjoy them and look forward to chatting with you all soon. Rob
Hi there and welcome Anita, that's quite an impressive tank you've got there and some 53 others stashed in the garage too. One day I'll get there (he said wistfully) - I've managed to work my way up to 14 tanks so far. With your 10x2x2 is the side-drop filter the only filtration it's got? Do you find it effective coping with that volume of water? From the diagram included with your pictures it seems to be a combination of an undergravel (since it's drawing in water through the substrate) and an air driven box filter - what equipment are you using to provide the air? Rob (who hopes to get into keeping Africans in the not too distant future)
Anita_ozfish
Hi Rob, thanks for the welcome and the comments - I like it too It was great to see 13 guys decide how they were all going to get this together   It runs on side drop filters at each end which are now hidden behind timber surrounds which finished the tank off nicely. They are purely air driven and actually siphon from the bottom of the tank (not through the gravel) and release water back through the top. I guess they are like a giant box filter. I have 2 gold Hiblow air pumps which run all the tanks in the garage and this tank as well. The side drops work really well and I have almost converted all my garage tanks off the reef system and onto this. Anita
Pegasus
Hey there Anita, great to have you here, and what a first few post... Fantastic... and the tanks... I'm still drooling. A very warm welcome to you. Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
Caryl
Hi Anita. Oh to be able to fit tanks in the garage. We can't even fit the cars in there because of the junk so clearing it out to make room for tanks would be impossible. One day Grant will shift enough stuff in the computer room for my other 4ft tank but I would never have anywhere to fit a 10ft. It looks great! Anita_ozfish
Thanks Bill and Caryl. What lovely welcomes from all of you and Rob too - thank you. Actually Caryl, we ended up having to put in a carport to keep our cars under cover as the weather was so rough on the paintwork and there was no way the fish were going anywhere. It's amazing what you can reshuffle in the house or get rid of altogether to fit in more tanks and you also save on clutter as well
ajbroome
Caryl said... > Oh to be able to fit tanks in the garage. It's times like these that I'm glad I keep killies. I'll easily be able to fit 50 + tanks in my garage as well as a car (which I don't have, so don't have to worry about) and a couple of motorcycles (which I do have :-) ) I'll probably have a couple of 4ft tanks in there but the rest will be much smaller... Currently, with no actual fishroom, there are about 20 tanks scattered about the garage, from 12 x 8 x 8 inches up to 20 x 12 x 12 and one 4ft. There's also 20 or 30 empty tanks and another 25 stashed in the woodshed... Welcome aboard, Anita. Andrew.
Anita_ozfish
Thanks Andrew. You see, that's my problem. I love the big Haps so I can't have small tanks except for my fry tanks oh well :-? :-? Will look forward to you coming over next year Andrew as CID said. Hope you will be in Sydney long enough to see a few setups. Anita

Anita_ozfish
Hi Goldie, Thanks all again for that warm welcome. Goldie, the tank is actually made out of glass   The stand is timber. Most people here use ordinary pine. I have all mine clear lacquered to go with my old cupboards I have my cameraman coming over on the weekend so will post up some pics of my other tanks and fish next week. Have a good weekend everyone.
