ken loach
loach is seemingly happy feeding the tank x1 cube of tropical tucker every two days he's eating, but really quite thin - zodiac loaches should be a bit fatter from what i've seen any ideas on why this might be? many thanks in advance! F15hguy
I have heaps of bird wormer that contains Praziquantel (2mg/L) and Levamisol (8.48mg/L) can this be used?, and also in what dosages?
mickey_1975
Yeah I think bird wormer is fine. Just do a search on here for wormer and u will find posts. I get pure prazi from vets real cheap. They use it for farm dogs so a country vet is the one to ask. I used bird warmer the first time and it didnt work that well I didnt think. Sophia
I've had loaches recover from skinny disease after being treated with levamisole, 3 have not. And thus they were named Mr Skinny 1, 2 and 3 before they died 8) . The other name we have it under in the search is Aviverm. The rate I use is as follows: 1 ml per 100 litres when the cause is known. 1 ml per 150 litres when the cause is unknown. Usually I do the first one anyway. leave for 24 hours with no lights. then gravel vac & 25-40% water change. do smaller water changes over the next few days. It's safe to use in the main tank as it's selective, will only kill the worms it's supposed to kill. If you look in my loach tank thread (see signature) towards the end you will see I recently dosed and the group perked up, but Mr Skinny 3 died. When they get so skinny that their 'rib cage' is fatter than their abdomen and their head looks a little big for the body, then it's likely game over and they will get skinnier and skinnier over a couple of weeks, join with the group less (though still hunting food), until they get unsociable and start resting more than they are moving.... and then goodnight. My last one tried to hide under the wood to die so keep checking to make sure they don't die in an inconvenient place.
ken loach
Thanks Sophia, awesome. He's been skinny - like rib cage skinny - for about half a year though. Could it be anything else apart from worms?
Sophia
Maybe he's just runty or not as healthy as the others. Could also be missing out on food if he's not as pushy. :dunno: If you can get some, try the wormer - it can't hurt at the right dosage, might fatten him up again. ken loach
cool! so this wormer, can get at any hollywood?
mcmillanm
Hollywood sell praziquantel in liquid form for around $25 I think. Not sure if they sell levamisol though - I bought some from Bird Barn about a year ago although it wasn't in the fish section. Both places promptly post/courier. Sophia
can't remember if I've seen it at HFF lately. Birdbarn definitely have it, ask for Aviverm, you can buy a small amount for about $8, then follow the dosage on here, the one on the bottle is for birds.
