wee2
is this normal in SA/CA cichlid world ?- male beats up female to death after breed (unsuccessful case) if they are still in one tank. My male midas turned mad toward to the female after the recent unsuccessful spawn. I heard that Festae dose the same trick, what about others?? like Jag, Texas?? what about Africans?? do they do the same??
David R
some pairs are closer than others, sometimes tank size and number of retreats helps, but as I found sometimes if he gets angry with her then nothing will stop him (10" male and 8" female festae with 800L to share didn't work). Umbee sound even worse, but festae are fairly notorious for it...
wee2
I bid Festae is the worst case. I have not put the little male in with the female yet. but will consider letting the the Festae pair (or future pair) in with some others like Jag and Redheaded in 600L . what do you think? Duncan7
Nah i dont think that will work, big breeding cichlids need their space, The festae will kill the rest if they want the space. My jags are tight as, spawn and are fine afterwards, great parents.

Duncan7
Yeah she was fine, i wouldnt expect any issues with her and others if she isnt in a pair, as soon as she pairs up, she will want the others gone.
henward
Flowerhorns are extremely notorious for this also. my last FH that i bred, and david would testify to this, the male really really roughs up the female, the female eventually died of her wounds. wee2
some people suggest fish world is in the other way around human world in sexual life. male fish has longer orgasm than female. after female complete at her end, male will still carry on claiming more..... that is why female gets beaten when male is refused. T or F??
