newaqua
Hello Everyone. I am interested to know the different rates at which protein skimmers should be run. I,e, 50% of tank volume an hour or 20% etc etc. Just in general what people think, or what they have theirs set to. Thanks Mike
Cricketman
Varies depending on a range of factors, no one answer is going to suit every application. Some of the factors are: Bioload/ stocking level Feeding regime Stock - some people purposefully leave an amount of organics in the water for filter-feeders... The skimmer itself (brand, quality, features) Best is to play around with it yourself, judge by the amount of skimmate your getting off, and how "watery" it is. Whatever anyone tells you, over-skimming is a myth (though, at a point, it just throwing money away), as long as you are removing the gears, your fine. Bit more info on tank/stock would help give you a better, more concise answer. livingart
get a skimmer rated for more than your system capacity then fine tune it with height, flow rate etc i still get good results from my old style skimmers
