Red eared slider turtles

Recommended Posts

When they say you need 60 gallons for one male red eared turtle are they talking about the amount of water or the whole enclosure? I'm thinking one day soon I might get one.

I've seen numerous tanks on Trade Me for turtles but they aren't big so are only suitable for while the turtles are little.....

Anyone here got any red eared turtles?

I do. Only one though. Maybe consider adopting one from Donna?

It generally means the whole tank. But you can have the water level as high as you want (depending on height of UVB tube). The more swimming space the better

Feel free to ask any more questions

Two turtles=2 times the water (well you could get away with a 100G). Also, if you end up with two males you would have to separate them, due to aggression. They can't be sexed when born (to my understanding :dunno: ) so it's something to keep in mind if you're getting two.

Remember the footprint of the tank is more important than the height. You do have to have some height but not too deep.

They're awesome pets and have a lot of character.
