Dilema with overflow

I am going to setup a tank with a sump and have just got all the bits to build a durso.

Now I am at the stage where I want to drill and build the overflow and get things started but started thinking of a few issues..

I was just going to build a standard square overflow in one back corner and be done with it, but then I thought if I wanted to move or sell the tank in the future and it was in the wrong corner it would be a pain. Then I thought I could build it in the centre of the tank but it would reduce the amount of space I have in the centre of the tank to put rock etc.

So I came across things like below, basically a siphon overflow with external box and durso. Obviously not to keen on siphon based because of reliability so not so sure on how good that would be?

What other options have people used?

I'm using a siphon overflow without a durso box but I've never had any problems with reliability. Basically once the air has been sucked out of the pipe during initial set-up, it runs by itself (even after water changes). Personally, I don't see any problems with the design on the website you posted - seems like it would run exactly like mine except with the box attachment.

the durso part is just to silence it the overflow could be noisy otherwise just like having a straight pipe in a drilled set up if set up properley an overflow box can be great some people have used aqualifter pumps to ensure no air builds up in them the one i have set up uses a strong suction from two large eductors( underwater venturis)

this also automatically starts the syphon even if it loses syphon during a power cut etc

That would be a disaster waiting to happen, if your pumps weren't matched then you would get a flood..

I considered that as well haha, but abandoned it. Not only would both pumps have to match, you'd have to factor in gravitational pull versus head loss. Add to that the risk of power cuts without siphon breaks... It's easier just to install the durso box lol.
