Sophia
Have just bought a new light for the loach tank and I'd like to know what is the best way to start using it without it causing an algae outbreak or cause the inhabitants any stress? The current light is a clip on 11W that is clipped to one side of the tank running along the width rather than the length. It's on about 6 hours a day. I think it's 6500K or thereabouts The new one will run lengthwise across the top (whole fitting is 520mm so I guess the bulb is about 300mm) and is 15W T8 solar (no kelvin rating that I know of yet). Any suggestions appreciated, especially from people who have done this and had success or failed already and know what not to do
blueether
I thought you were getting a LED one?
Morcs
Just switch them over. .... Its not like your going from lower power to high power. Going from weak light to weak light, should be fine.
Ira
Yeah, agreed. An extra 3 watts isn't going to cause them to spontaneously combust.
Sophia
Re LED I was looking at options and I hadn't seen this one yet. It's half the price of LED and about T8 I can find plenty of information and get replacement tubes for so I am happy with the trade off. thanks for the comments
Sophia
......just realised that the original light fitting is 7 watts, not 11 watts, so it will be getting double the amount of light.
Morcs
I just put most of my plants and fish from a tank with a 15w T5 into a tank with 78w of T5, no worries.
