Jammos
just wondering how to sex my lepord pleco(L001) and my common pleco (l023) should i post pics? if so from top down or sides? Also if I get some rear plecos will the commns breed with them or do they stick to their own?
HummingBird
From my understanding it's quite hard to get plecos to breed - they lay their eggs in muddy banks.
CatBrat
They are not easy to sex. The only way that I know is by looking at their genatlia. The rear pleco's won't breed with the common's that you have. The commons need to dig borrows into the sides of banks, and this is very hard to recreate in an aquarium. They have been bred in outside ponds, so that could be worth a try. Other than that I don't know what you could do. Cheers, CatBrat.
Jammos
that sounds good. So I can mix and match. might try and design a new tank setup. How old are they when they can start breeding? 1ish?

Jammos
plecos (in general)
CatBrat
It depends on the species. Some species such as Ancistrus may become mature after only a year, but others (such as some species of Panaque) will take much , much longer. What species do you want to know about? kylefish02
hey jammos only two of what you have listed you can breed and they are gold nuggets and buterflys thats if by you saying L030 as peppermint but if its peppermint ancistrus then there not to difficult to breed. For breeding gold nuggets will be quite difficult as they reach a big size over 16cm and thats huge and are quite difficult to sex.butterflys arnt very easy to breed either mine spawned after being well conditioned and having a 3foot by themselves with nothing threatning them my ph was 6.8 and temp around 28c they need a fast curent going around the tank and water to be clean hope this helps
Jammos
thanks how did you create the current? just put an internal filter in the top of the water? I was hope to create a whole bunch of rock shelves up in a couple of corners (so you can see in ) and get some kind of moss to grow over it all. I was going to get a pair of one of the above and then a couplemore later on.
