beachy
Hey guys is it important to use air pumps? or does it not really matter? do i need to airate my tank if my filter has quite good output?
Caryl
I only use an airpump if it is attached to a box or under gravel filter. They are useful in higher temperatures as the warmer the water the less oxygen. A lot of people like bubbles and bubble walls in their tanks but these are for aesthetics only, not necessary. DiverJohn
I use a bubble wall for about 6 hours at night when the lights are off. Reason is because i run a diy CO2 to grow plants, there is "thoeretically" a possibility that the CO2 could make the water too acidic at night ( when the plants arent using the CO2). Altho with DIY CO2, my understanding is it is less likely to get too acidic, i run it anway, doesnt do any harm. pH is constant @ 7 Hope that helps
morf
02 content of water is far more dependent on surface water movement than the actual presence of air bubbles from an air stone air pumps are less and less important as more and more people have internal and external power filters that move the water surface with their returns. suphew
Air pumps are noisy, and can cause algae on your cover glass due to the splashing. I avoid them when possible, there isn't much need for them with cheaper powered filters. As stated it is the water surface contact that puts the O2 into the water, air pumps can help because each bubble has a surface, but IMHO directing the output from your filter so it breaks the surface work better. beachy
Sweet thanks guys, my filter has pretty good output so it breaks the surface of the water quite well, i guess all should be good, cheers
