how long does co2 drop check solution last

i am new to this part of plants, and have never had a co2 drop checker, so how long does the solution you put in the bell of the tester last in the water?

In my case, until it falls off the side of the tank and fills with water lol.

so do i, also is your really clear when u first add it, cos mine seem to clear to read properly, even tho i add slightly less water

They should have printed somewhere a BB date. On packaging or leaflet or on bottle itself, or even a week code and year. ie "32/10"

Failing that... Google what the solution is, and then Google its lifespan. :dunno:

no i mean each test, how long will it correctly tell you the co2 ie it lasts a week a month etc

I have a JBL permanent Co2 test kit which is basically the same thing. The instuructions say change the reagent ever water change, at the latest 14 days. The reagent if have is" Art. No.25386" if that makes any sense.

Mine is a very pale shade of blue when I first put it in but easy enough to read.

mine is nearly clear, only see a slight yellow clour when out of the water, then in the tank it is clear :dunno:

Maybe your water is too Yellow :sml2:

With mine it is blue when no co2 and green when co2 is on.

I was wondering the same thing i got mine off fish street and it seams to be the same as the ones currently being sold on trade me. as soon as you put it in the tank it looks clear and seams to have no color change even after the co2 has been on. i was thinking of terying to get a different soulition to put in it

Most of these require DOUBLE the amount of indicator solution to produce good visible colour. Use it until the colour fades - it should take weeks.

thanks so much , i have also got a white icecream lid when i need to see the reading i can place behind it to make it more vivid

Add enough indicator that you don't need to use white behind it.

Over the course of a week, mine develops a bio film between the water/air interface which is fine because I change it every week with the water change.

After a month of running my co2 and get the amount right I don't use the drop checker anymore because it is the same every day

When I accidentally broke my drop checker washing it, i thought I could rely on the same principle, but I found that something changes, like amount of plants, cleaning out the filter and piping, which required turning off the gas, or whatever, I couldn't do that. Peace of mind = drop checker...

True, I still have it. I was thinking about upping the light and co2 to my tank this weekend so I will probably add it back in soon anyway just to keep an eye on it and remove it again when I am happy with it.
