phoenixb
ive got a 75ltr tank thats got a few soft corals - mushrooms, polyps ect and i have got a large skimmer, with about 15kg's of liverock. i have also got a inch thik coral sand bed (that i cycled with the live rock that i cycled - so i think it is 'live') ive got 2 powerheads on either side of the aquiarium to circulate water i also have a aqua one cf1200 running atm (that i had running as mechanical filtration befor i got the skimmer) is it worth using the canister - or is it just going to harbour nitrates
the-obstacle
From what I understand the CF1200 will house nitrates if it's set up for fresh water (Sponge, noodles etc.) but it can be set up for marine by removing the sponge, filter wool and noodles and replacing with coral rubble and whatever chemical treatments you're using (carbon, phosban etc.) it's a good way of creating a media basket. buzzy
if you have a decent skimmer on the tank i wouldn't worry about using the canister filter
wasp
It's not that it harbours nitrates, it just won't get rid of them because the needed anearobic conditions do not exist inside a flowing cannister. the two nitrate removers are you liverock and your sand bed if it's deep enough. in your case the sand is only an inch deep, not really enough, so it's your rock.
