Drifty
What wattage should metal halides be for the height of the tank. I have read articles that state 150 watt for 45cm or less 250 watt for 45cm to 60 cm 400 watt for more than 60cm Now are these recomendations for tanks that keep stoney corals and other things that need a lot of light or for all types of marine tanks. wasp
That's kind of average, however may need to move up on that for light hungry organisms such as sps.
Pies
You probably can't have too much light, but there are many factors to consider. I am using 400s, 400s cost more to run but the bulbs are cheaper. Bigger bulbs create more heat. Some corals like more light than other corals etc. How high is your rock structure. Drifty
my rock structure up to about 50 cm, but I will only be keeping mushrooms and anemones no stoneys
Pies
Anemones require good strong light, but I suspect any HID like MH will be fine fore them. Mushrooms will survive with any light but most seem to perfur bright but not intense light (say T5s over MHs). Pie
